The Mixed Signal Power Manager (MPM) Daughter Card Kit enables system designers to evaluate the functionality of Microsemi's power management solutions in hardware with a four-regulator benchtop power management development system. The MPM daughter card includes four regulators, four voltage bias potentiometers and four fault introduction pushbutton switches, implementing four fully independent power supplies that can be varied and interrupted to demonstrate the management capabilities of Microsemi's mixed signal power management solution, MPM.

MPM takes advantage of the processing power and programmable flexibility of the SmartFusion™ intelligent mixed signal FPGAs included on the SmartFusion Evaluation Kit or SmartFusion Development Kit when these kits are connected to the MPM daughter card and programmed with the MPM demonstration design.

The MPM daughter card features:

  • Four independent regulators — 3.3 V (2 each) and 5 V (2 each)
    • Each rail includes voltage bias potentiometer and enable interrupt pushbutton switch
  • Four voltage bias potentiometers and four enable-interrupt pushbutton switches for fault introduction
  • Eight LEDs available for MPM combinatorial digital 'flag' assignment
  • Completely independent 9 V power supply with independent power switch
    • Fully isolated from mother board power domains
  • Connects to SmartFusion mixed signal header on A2F-DEV-KIT or A2F-EVAL-KIT boards
  • For use with MPM for SmartFusion Reference Design including full Libero IDE project and firmware C source code downloadable from Microsemi

MPM for SmartFusion using SmartFusion Evaluation Kit or SmartFusion Development Kit with the MPM Daughter Card offers these key benefits:

  • Intelligent power management leveraging 100 MHz 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M3 in SmartFusion intelligent mixed signal FPGA
  • Configurable power management using intrinsically low power, high-reliability, flash-based SmartFusion intelligent mixed signal FPGA on A2F-DEV-KIT or A2F-EVAL-KIT mother board
  • Power Management functions reconfigurable via standalone PC GUI over JTAG or directly (register peek/poke) via I2C
  • Implements power management in hardware for comprehensive evaluation
  • More features and channels than current ASSP solutions
    • Nonvolatile
    • Live at power-up (LAPU)
    • Low power
  • Single-chip and low power solution simplifies board design
  • Low power FPGAs reduce thermal management and cooling requirements
  • Proven in hardware, ready for use
