The security of electronic systems can be divided
into two major classes: design security and data security. The goal of design security is to ensure that the owner's hard work and valuable
intellectual property (IP) is protected and intact at all times. Data security refers to applications that a system utilizes to protect and
authenticate data. Microsemi has a long history of providing a wide variety of secure and ultra reliable solutions to
the Military and Aerospace industry that can be utilized and leveraged into numerous industrial, commercial and medical applications including:
- Industrial Automation
- Machine-to-Machine (M2M)
- Secure Radio
- Security Industry (Access control, Alarms, Video, etc.)
- Medical
- Telecom and Datacom
- Set-Top Box
- Media Content Distribution
- Gaming
- Payment Systems, Point-of-Sale Terminals
- Automotive
- Cell Phones and Wireless Communications
As more systems involve sensitive cryptographic keys and data, protection from cryptographic attacks becomes critically important for FPGA users concerned about security. FPGAs, especially those including embedded nonvolatile memory (eNVM) or embedded hard or soft microcontrollers, provide an ideal platform on which to implement secure cryptographic algorithms and protocols, but designers want assurance that these implementations will withstand various forms of cryptanalysis.Cryptanalysis is when an attacker tries to discover secrets protected by cryptographic methods. Side-channel analysis is a type of attack on a cryptographic system that utilizes the information unintentionally leaked from the real-world implementations of the cryptographic hardware via side-channels. Microsemi has obtained a license from CRI for the DPA patent portfolio, for implementation in current and future devices.
